On June 11, 1963, in Saigon, Vietnam, a monk by the name of Thích Quảng Đức was willing to give up his life to fight against the religious oppression being shown against Buddhist culture in the country at the time. Like nothing anybody has seen before, accompanied by 350 monk and nuns, he marched into town, landing in one of the busiest intersections in Saigon. It was there in which he took a seat and allowed his fellow monks to drench him in 5 gallons of gasoline. He then proceeded to light himself on fire, sacrificing his own life.. This brave demonstration made no small impact, the next morning it flooded the front pages of millions of newspapers across the globe. And it was not long until the government was crumbled, and the President assassinated. With such a simple, but giving gesture, Thích Quảng Đức had in turn traded his life for his people to regain the right to their religion.
